Scot Rotruck: attempt installation to a commonly used annoyingchronic first, then attempt the SSD. That determines no count if that's achronic subject or different hardware... Set the BIOS to "Defaults" or "risk-free Values" first, get Win7 working, and in basic terms then play with OC or different thoughts...
Jude Kennelly: First you need to verify that the optical drive is the problem, and not the faulty motherboard. Remove the drive and boot into safe mode, then check the event viewer to see which error you got. I can't give you specifics on how to do this, because I don't know what OS version you are running. Once you find the error code, you can look it up to see what's causing the problem. If that's not helpful, post the error code here and you will be more likely to get useful advice. It may also help to remove all driver utilities for optical drive while you are in safemode, and see if the computer will boot normally after that....Show more
Hyman Coren:! Try using dual USB cable for better power supply for your drive, or maybe get a new motherboard ;)
