Carolynn Testani: If you put a motorcycle in first gear without using the clutch, the bike will either stall or lurch forward and take-off depending upon how much throttle is being applied when "dumped" into gear. Learning to shift and cluth a motorcycle is easier then learning straight-shift on a car due to a motorcycles clutch being operated by hand versus foot in a car. You have more feeling ! in your hand for the clutches engagement and disengagement point then you do with your foot. Practice getting the bike rolling from a dead stop. Leave the bike in first gear, slowly ease the clutch lever out without applying any throttle. Listen for the point when the engine starts to idle down because you're starting to engage the power to the rear wheel. That's the engagement point. Once you've found where the friction zone is, again slowly ease the clutch lever out while slowly rolling on some throttle until the clutch lever is completely out. Remember a bike can never do anything scary if the clutch is pulled in (disconnecting the engine from the rear wheel). Be careful and make sure you have your helmet and protective on....Show more

Anton Waln: There is more to it than just a straight pipe. If that was all it took, they would simply hang a 12 inch pipe from the exhaust port in the head to deflect the exhaust and be done with it. The exhaust is tuned. This is because an engine actually requires a certain amount of exhaust backpressure to run best.The tuning goes even further than the shape and design of the exhaust pipe. The jets in the carburetor must be sized to match the amount of backpressure in the exhaust. The heat range of the spark plug must be matched to the carburetor and exhaust. Many times the ignition timing also needs to be altered.But this isn't done by random wild guesses. The ! engine is connected to a dynamometer so that the results from each change can be closely evaluated. This type of tuning is generally done by people with deep pockets. Therefore, I want to clarify that hardware stores or home improvement stores do not normally carry motorcycle key blanks and neither do a lot of locksmiths. If you have a working key and only need to make a copy,! call around to see who has the blanks.....you may get lucky. Of cours! e, the dealer should always be able to help with this, too. Now, what if you have lost your key? You will need a locksmith to originate a new key. It's always easier to make a spare key as a precaution, but it is also good to locate a locksmith who services motorcycles in advance of losing a key....it will be much less frustrating....Show more
